Dems Again Show True Colors

They willfully delay troop funding by sending the President a bill they know he will veto.

The video of these comments would show the speakers foaming at the mouth, a sneer on their lips, their voices shaking with anger and their eyes bulging and twitching:

"The president wants a blank check," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., moments after Bush's appearance. "The Congress is not going to give it to him."

"If the president thinks by vetoing this bill, he'll stop us from working to change the direction of the war in Iraq, he is mistaken," Reid said.

"The idea that we're not building new Humvees with the V-shaped things is just crap. Kids are dying that don't have to die." said Biden. "Second thing is, we're going to shove it down his throat."

"What I’m saying, there’s four ways to influence a president. And one of them’s impeachment,” said Murtha, according to the Web site Politco.com. Murtha, chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee, made his remarks on "Face the Nation.” "They say we’re willing to compromise, and then we don’t get any compromise,” Murtha said. "We’ve already compromised. And we need to make this president understand, Mr. President, the public has spoken.”

"I believe myself that the secretary of state, secretary of defense and — you have to make your own decisions as to what the president knows — (know) this war is lost and the surge is not accomplishing anything as indicated by the extreme violence in Iraq (Wednesday)." said Reid.

And the president willfully delays troop funding by making a veto because he doesn't want any withdrawal date at all.

Oh..and with statements like "speakers foaming at the mouth, a sneer on their lips, their voices shaking with anger and their eyes bulging and twitching"

you can hardly be expected to have anything associated with that considered as serious discourse??!?

Bish...you should know better. This whole interaction was nothing more than political pandering of the lowest sort. They knew from the start that setting a timeline would garner the result it received, so why did they even put it in the bill?

The House does not dictate to the executive. The only way to get what you want is to win a presidential election.

That is our system, that's how we do it, and it's high time the democrats remembered that.

They knew full well that the President does not want a timetable for withdrawl; the dems put it in anyway to play partisan games. They have been holding up funding for political power: 6 months have been wasted on a symbolic gesture to their base.

They need to figure out another way to get elected in '08.

No other description comes close to describing their reaction to the President's veto. They could not disguise their hatred for him. They are burning up.

Ho-hum? Maybe now ignorant libs can wake up to the fact that we are not fighting a conventional war.

Then why does the democrat-controlled Congress hate the majority of the American people?

Errr....what? How does doing what the majority of the American people want show hatred? It would seem if anyone hates the American people it would be the ones NOT doing what the majority of the people want.

And the executive does not dictate to Congress. Forget that part?

How is not being able to find enough votes to support an override of the veto
"doing what the majority of American people want?"

How does votes to override a veto relate to what the American people want?

Let's use your logic and say Congressional votes represent what the people want. In that case the majority support a timetable.

However, I was talking about the Americans, the public. The large majority of which want a timetable. Therefore Congress introducing a timetable is "doing what the majority of American people want".

Hello?

Majority of American People want Timetable
Dems introduce bill for funding war with Timetable
President Vetos dem's bill
Dems can override Bush veto with 2/3 vote: total 435/needed 290/got 218
Dems cannot find enough votes within their ranks to override Bush veto=
Dems will not vote vote for what the Majority of American People want

They've abandoned you.

If enough dems believed it was the right thing to do they would find the votes to OVERRIDE the President's VETO. But they CAN'T. What does that TELL you?

I'm not sure what you're not getting here.

The large majority of Americans want a timetable. Congress introduces a bill with a timetable which is "doing what the majority of Americans want".

Clear so far?

Bush vetos it which is NOT doing what the majority of Americans want.

Now I think this is where you make your mistake->

Dems cannot find enough votes within their ranks to override Bush veto=Dems will not vote vote for what the Majority of American People want

No, almost all the Dems voted for the bill. See your link:
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll276.xml

Therefore Dems will vote for what Americans want. If you look at your own link it's the Reps who are not voting for what America wants.

If enough dems believed it was the right thing to do they would find the votes to OVERRIDE the President's VETO. But they CAN'T. What does that TELL you?

It TELLS me that the Congress members who are not voting for the bill are not doing what America wants...namely the Reps.

Democratic Yay:220 Nay:7 (doing what America wants)
Republican Yay:2 Nay:196 (not doing what America wants)

you're missing the point, spike. it's not what "the people" want, it's what true, red-blooded american heroes that have *special* insight into matters of foreign policy want that's important.

"How would you rate the job Democrats in Congress are doing: excellent, pretty good, only fair, or poor?"

Excellent/Pretty Good Only Fair/Poor
4/20-23/07 35 58

35% 58%

The Dems aren't speaking for many either (if you like polls)

Polling Report

Going by your link several of the polls on Iraq once again confirm that by far most Americans want a timetable which is what the Dems are trying to provide in this case.

Thanks for the support.
