That's weird that Hawaii would wait 'til so late to start broadcasting digital. The stations here have been broadcasting digital alongside analog for at least all the past year... or several.

Most likely they're all currently broadcasting in digital. HD/digital signals should have been broadcast for quote some time now.

What kind of antenna do you have Na? That can make a huge difference. My mom doesn't have a rooftop antenna. She uses a set of rabbit ears, lives about five blocks closer to the broadcast towers than I do, and gets less reliable reception than I do. I keep telling her to get a new antenna and face it toward the towers.

Cable and satellite are common here. I just don't have it myself because I'm not ready for another expense right now.

LOL My mom can't afford cable right now. But two of my brothers have cable, and my grandma even has satellite... not sure about the other relatives tho.

We had digital cable for awhile, and got rid of it because we hardly watched it. Then we got rid of standard cable because we hardly watched it. Now we (supposedly) just have basic cable (20 channels). They just never disconnected the standard cable.
We watch 90% of stuff online, via mail (Netflix), or using Redbox.
I'd be happy getting rid of the cable bill (TV and net) altogether and getting dry-pair DSL.

I used to have cable, and at one point, satellite. But that was back when I didn't play video games as much, and didn't have a computer.

Mostly everyone else here has cable/satellite here too - I just don't want to pay for tv when I can watch the news for free and I can rent the movies I want

I have Satellite. For people in big cities, where there are a good 20 or 30 channels broadcasting, satellite or cable might be less necessary than, say, where I live... over the antenna I have maybe four to choose from, possibly five if the signal for KEYT/ABC will reach all the way here from Santa Barbara. Meanwhile, in Fresno, where there are a lot of broadcast channels (and it's in a valley so broadcasts travel better than in the hills where I'm at) and a lot of poor people, cable/satellite penetration is really low (48 percent in 2003 and I'm sure it hasn't grown to 85 percent over the last five years).

So basically, cable and satellite made no inroads on getting those on antenna to convert to pay TV. Satellite gained the same amount cable lost.

Well, it seems we are settling on the Philco TB100HH9 Digital Converter box .. for two reasons:
one, it's only $9.97 with my coupon at the local PX
two, that's all the local PX has and everything else out there is $20+ with the coupon.
The reviews haven't been awful .. most of the bad reviews I've read have counterparts - you know, they plugged it in wrong or something .. so I'm hopeful *crosses fingers*

I was wondering if you'd catch that. Yes, he is a load-master .. but see .. my daddy was a Marine .. so .. it is a PX and shall always remain that way
Not to mention it's on the outside of the store .. AAFES PX ... but my man still calls it a BX and I correct him every single time
