We've been sleeping with the windows open at nite. I just woke-up in the last hour and closed the window next to me, it was a tad chilly.

WOW! My mom REALLY didn't want a dog...but we ended up with one anyway (3 against 1). You must REALLY REALLY REALLY not want a dog!

I love dogs, I really do. I just don't feel I would be an a proper owner too one. No one at home during the day, not everyone is up to the task for a long proper walk everyday. No fenced in yard.

And I just don't want the responsibility of one at this point, it's not a matter of disliking dogs, it's a matter of not being able to care for one the way I think a dog should be cared for.

Well, THAT makes more sense. I feel the same way re: not being in the right place for a dog. I guess I just don't phrase it the same way. I always say "I'd LOVE a dog but I'm not in a place for one right now."

I don't trust folks who dislike animals. It's OK not to want a dog or a cat for whatever reason, but people who actively dislike animals kind of freak me out. It's like there is something missing, something good and essential but missing....

My mom does not like animals. She'd never harm an animal and if one needed help she'd help it (if she wasn't too scared to do so)...but she doesn't like them. Are you saying there's something wrong with her?

Oh you just had to know someone was gonna come off with this!

I don't know your mother, so no I am not, however, knowing that, yes, I would be more wary of her as a person than of you, since you do obviously like animals. Chances are she has had some traumatic experience or just has a phobia, which is probably different than what I mean.

I think anyone who has been around at all has met someone who dislikes animals for no apparent reason at all. If you want to group your mother with them and assume that I am saying that there is something wrong with your mother, feel free. It's one more reason to make me a villain. Enjoy!

Is there anything else I can say inadvertently to offend you so you will have more justification to have disdain for me? Let me know, if it's helpful to you to have a bad guy around, I'll gladly play the role.

Just pointing out the error in your statement. There is nothing wrong with my mom, nothing "missing" so to speak. She does have a phobia of animals. Is it because of a specific event? I don't know. You don't like when people generalize about aspects of your life (past or present) so don't do it to others.

Except that there was no error in my statement. I meant it completely. I clarified it, since you pointed out a part of it that wasn't clear, but there is no error whatever. I have a right to feel as I do, and I do, in no uncertain terms.

Glad I could annoy you today, I hope it makes you feel better, and have a wonderful day

Here is an excerpt from an AA book informally known as the 12x12 that explains the role I can fill here:

Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions (somewhere in step six) said:
....What we must recognize now is that we exult in some of our defects. We really love them. Who, for example, doesn't like to feel just a little superior to the next fellow, or even quite a lot superior?....

Me too!
