It is not restricting the freedom to worship to suggest that Ground Zero is not an appropriate place to build a mosque and Muslim cultural center called "Cordoba House"......named as a symbol of conquest. It is meant to show the world that the destruction of the Twin Towers was a victory for jihad. To build an islamic mosque there is an affront to all that died there.

Ah, but Cerise, the opposition is suggesting they don't build it here like a two-year old suggests he wants the candy in the candy isle. To throw demeaning definitions of terminology at the issue is no different than saying I wouldn't want a church next to my home because they have graphic pictures depicting cruel punishment like stoning and crucifixion.


As much as I think Fred Phelps is a cocksucker, he has the right to be a bigoted ass. As much as I'd rather see his church bulldozed and replaced with a Walmart, he has a right to have his building stand there.

He just doesn't have a right to pursue and attack others using his spiritual views as justification for being above the law. That is the only place he steps over the line.

Same goes for this community center and alleged mosque. I may not necessarily agree with the religion, but to force them to pick somewhere else opens a huge precedent, one which will no doubt snowball and seriously challenge the final word of the constitution. Don't go there, its just too sticky to get Gov hands involved.

What's next, mandatory zoning of specific areas for the orthodox catholic church? I believe those crazy commies over in the USSR tried to get rid of that religion (along with everything else they didn't agree with) awhile back...

Americans carry legitimate deep seeded feeling about Ground Zero, they believe it to be hallowed ground. WE, meaning most Americans, do not want a mosque to built on or even near grounds of the 9/11 attack. -- Landing gear, that cleared though the building and the people inside it, landed in this very building. Nobody want top hear the "sweetest sound" of the call to prayer as they visit the 9/11 memorial.

Islam is intolerant itself, why don't they open a Mosque/Synagogue combo and lead by example.

The constitution doesn't guarantee emotional satisfaction of others. I don't have an obligation, nor do you have a right, to have me do things that makes you happy. Even if a vast majority of Americans think they should move, its not up to us to decide for them. Thus the freedom part.

Hypothetical: Why don't women not vote or own land because I don't think women should be in that role? What if I polled and found that a majority of people think the same way? Would the emotion and (un)popular sentiment override the constitutional amendment?
