Is this far enough?

How far can we take PC behavior? Into our homes apparently.

A Colorado mother is appealing a child custody decision in which a court barred her from teaching homosexuality is wrong.

Cheryl Clark, who says she is a Christian, has been ordered by Denver County Circuit Judge John W. Coughlin to "make sure that there is nothing in the religious upbringing or teaching that the minor child is exposed to that can be considered homophobic."

The directive arose from the decision to award joint parenting responsibilities for her daughter to a practicing homosexual.

doesn't freedom of speech go into the homes also. if you tell your kids about santa and the easter bunny then you can tell them about the evil gays

might make a good movie too :gay:THE EVIL GAY:gay:

she should be allowed to teach her children as such. its her private home she has her own morals derived from her religion.

It's kinda touchy though. You see if her daughter goes out and kills a half dozen homos one day who do you think should be held responsible?

The daughter for beingg a murderer. Nobody controls your actions but YOU.

i suspect this is an isolated individual case rather than one which sets law of precedent, or is indicative some deep all encompasing afront to freedom of choice.
a lesbian couple adopts, one of the couple then comes to the conclusion that homosexuality is wrong and ends the relationship.
as joint custodians i can understand why the other part of the couple isn't keen for her adopted daughter to be taught that her mum is evil. she loves her daughter and wants to maintain an unprejudiced relationship with her.

i suppose at the end of the day all parents whose relationshps break down don't want their children to become involved in the reasons for the breakup.

Your premise is correct, ris, although once a ruling is made, it becomes precedent setting. That's why these rulings matter.

i think that under tort law in the uk the judge can state whether a ruling is able to be used as precedent, and it also relies on the precedent being accepted as valid for non-identical situations.

I agree but if she instills the idea in teh daughters head wouldnt she be somewhat responsible?

Absolutely not. Actions are a choice. Your parents may not have taught you the right or the wrong way. They gave you a baseline to work from. It's the individuals choice what to do with it.

I'm sure you were taught that criminals are evil, does that make you want to kill them? the same applies here.

If the mother teaches the kid that homosexuality is wrong, then wouldn't the potential murder problem be solved if she also teaches the kid that murder is wrong?

possibly. kids usually follow the morals taught by their parents though some can differ. but i think generally yes it would

Seems more like the mother is taking a pot-shot at her ex-hubby and using homosexuality as her primary weak-point to strike at. I don't think that they can stop her from doing this...churches have been saying that homosexuality is evil for millenia, and you can't stop them. In fact...no one has tried.

Can you imagine a GVT memo to a church

To whom this may concern,

We understand that you have been preaching against homosexuality. This form of hate will no longer be tolerated. Please stop or we shall be forced to prosecute with prejudice. In addition, we understand that you have been giving out hate-literature. There is a book called "The Bible" which specifically talks of violent actions (Stonings) against homosexuals. Please destroy all such books in your inventory. Thank you and have a nice day.

yours truly,

Dr. John Doe†

 who are you talking about? HE?

this is from the story Gonz posted the link to (bold mine):

Staver explained to WorldNetDaily Clark and Elsey McLeod were in a lesbian relationship that broke up after Clark became a Christian and concluded homosexual behavior was wrong.

A classic case of looking before leaping. I hadn't read the article and was responding to the comments from others.

So...the mother was in a lesbian relationship. She became 'born again' and decided that she couldn't be gay anymore because gay=evil. So...she dumps her girlfriend and now wants to keep her kid away from her evil ex-girlfriend. In the meanwhile, she's trying to make her kid hate gays and thus reinforcing what her adopted religion has taught her AND creating a rift between her kid and her ex.

I think that this is it thus far. I'm guessing that someone drove her to reconsider her lifestyle. I'm wondering whom.

That's an awfully big leap. One does not have to hate what one finds offensive or is in disagreement with.
