Okay, my onboard sound on my "surf the web and get actual work done occasionally" (this one) makes a high pitched whistling noise. pitch and volume vary as you type or use the mouse. Mainboard: Asus A7N8X, onboard sound: nVidia MCP2. It runs through a Pioneer SX-40 (the Mitsubishi power amp having finally bitten the dust) and some Harmon Karden studio monitors. If you play a program that uses audio (winamp, tvtime, etc...) and turn the volume down or mute the app, there is no noise. If you mute the sound using the mixer (Linux or Windows) the noise remains. Changing the volume of any slider does not seem to affect this noise in any way. I have replaced cables. I have disconnected and reconnected everything inside and outside of the computer. I can find no interference source (I wouln't have expected to any way but hey, you look). Any ideas????

I think some component external to the PC is catching interference generated by the PC. See if problem remains when you use headphones or a set of pc speakers.

My A7N8X Deluxe causes all sounds to go static after using the keyboard while listening to Winamp. If you use anything else, it doesn't happen. New BIOS, sound drivers, speakers, winamp version, etc....still unsolved.

Now see, if I have winamp running, no problems. It's only when nothing is using the sound. What bugs me is that it's in Linux or Windows, which points to a hardware problem.

I can run winamp for about an hour. After that, it'll usually happen....but *only* if I'm using the keyboard at the time. A reboot fixes it.

Never had linux on this system, but its done it through multiple XP installs.

Actually, the S/PDIF works great in my case....its just analog audio that does it. Even with everything muted.

I don't have the need for a digital audio system at the office though. :(

Same here. In fact, as I mentioned before, when I'm using any program that has audio output there is no problem. It's just when there is no signal that it makes the noise.

Hex, Winky, I've muted everything individually, severally and in various combinations with no change.
