Indeed there is. Unlike the wealthy, white-as-snow University of
Delaware (African-American enrollment: 6 percent), Delaware State
is a small black college lacking in prestige, finances and facilities
(its stadium holds 6,800 spectators; Delaware's holds 22,000).
The school came to be in 1891 only because the men running the
First State wished not to allow blacks into their grand university.
Under the Morrill Act, a state either could open its public educational
facilities to all peoples, or start a separate-but-equal school for
blacks. Hence, Delaware State.



In the ensuing 116 years, Delaware has treated Delaware State not
as academic/athletic brethren, but as a piece of gum affixed to the
bottom of its loafer. Del. State is where the scary black people
congregate, where "those" types of folk go to college.

That story would have been more effective without the moralistic editorializing. A good writer would have pointed out the situation & made it look backward & stupid. Instead, thois guy puts both sides on teh defensive.

Ummmm, just to clarify, Delaware is not and has never really been considered part of New England...

But either way, that story sucks... good thing the only time i get near delaware is driving through on my to and from DC.

i'm not really sure i understand what that author is really trying to say, but, like someone else said, the moralizing kinda sucks.

does anyone here really think that the south is more racist, at this point in time, than the northeast? i mean, really? not just to jerk somebody's chain?

Well, we need to send you some updated maps there SnP. I'll highlight what is considered New England. We don't want nuthin to do with NY or NJ, so if ya wouldn't mind unlumping them from your version of New England, it'd be much appreciated.

Umm...no. Florida has very few Southerners left. It's all transplanted yanks and Hispanics now.
