Computer Gender

A pastor of a church had previously been a sailor. He was
very aware that ships are addressed as "she" and "her". He
often wondered what gender computers should be addressed. To
answer that question, he set up two groups of computer
experts.

The first group was composed of women, and the second of
men. Each group was asked to recommend whether computer
should be referred to in the feminine gender, or the
masculine gender. They were asked to give 4 reasons for
their recommendations.

The group of women reported that computers should be
referred to in the masculine gender because:

1. In order to get their attention you have to turn them on.
2. They have a lot of data, but are still clueless.
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the
time they are the problem.
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had
waited a little longer you could have had a better model.

The men, on the other hand, concluded that computers should
be referred to in the feminine gender because:

1. No one but the Creator understands their internal logic.
2. The native language they use to communicate with other
computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
3. Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term
memory for later retrieval.
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find
yourself spending half of your paycheck on accessories
for it.

Good one...

But if I look at the answers of the male people, I'm pretty sure I disagree on all 4 points, regarding computers of course :D

Yes Sir, I AM a geek, and I'm proud of it

1. No one but the Creator understands their internal logic.
I understand the internal logic, and i'm not the Creator.

2. The native language they use to communicate with other
computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
I comprehend the language they use, altough i can't speak it.

3. Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term
memory for later retrieval.
That's a false statement.

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find
yourself spending half of your paycheck on accessories
for it.
Since when do women buy "accesories" for men ???

Computers are females :D :D

#3 is true. If you make a mistake writing a program, and you save it, that error will be there for you to bring up later. Or, if you make a mistake in a spreadsheet and you save it, the file will contain that error. ;)

#4 is correct because it says that men buy accessories for women. :D

A car, a boat, an airplane
they could all have the fairer gender attributed to them.

But a beige box?

No way José!

Now, it has both male and female plugs on it. It can only be a hermaphrodite.

The strange thing about languages like french and spanish is the need to make common everyday items either male or female in order to make them fit the grammar.

In French, computers are male (All tools which can be used to make new things tend to be), while tables and chairs (things which are only made to be used or used to destroy things) are female.

My computer is definatly female tho' ... the bitch!! ;)
