Speaking of peadophiles (I will refrain from saying what I think of them as it will just be a string of curses that should never be heard from a lady).

I heard on the news this morning of a man in his 30's who was 'surprised' at the fact that he was sentenced to life in prison for raping his 11 year old step daughter.

Apparently his defense was that the girl had seduced him by taking her clothes off in front of him & insisting that he has sex with her - to make her mother jealous or something. And according to him the mother made a case against him to prevent him from leaving her for his girlfriend with whom he has a 3 year old child.

Oh and the wife has also been found guilty of rape as, according to the report, she was present in the room when he raped her child (the family were all watching TV together on the parents' bed & that is when the guy stripped the child & proceeded in raping her) and she put her hand on the girl's leg while it was going on because she was trembling

If there is a hell I hope to all that's mighty that there's a special place just for people like this

yea but ill be blunt. i tend to go by the side of the victim. though ill admit there are cases where its bs, in many cases its not. in our country(im not sure about Canada) its innocent and you must be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt

Here's the thing...I wouldn't mind if one moved into my neighbourhood. Here's the rule of thumb "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer"/

This would be a person that I knew was a paedophile...that my neighbours knew as well. I could point them out to my kid and say "Keep away from him...don't talk to him, don't go to his place etc.." I could keep an eye on him and report him if he broke trust/parole, and send him back into a hole somewhere, far, far away.

Otherwise, you don't know whom you can trust...paedophiles don't wear special pins, drive certain cars and they don't look like 'child molestors"...that is, they don't have long greasy hair, zippers undone, look wierd etc...they look like you and I. If I know who is a paedophile...then I'm one step above the rest of the crowd, now ain't I?

Quota? No. but if s/he lives around me and I know him/her...then I am well armed. If s/he lives in the next neighbourhood and visits mine, then I'm disarmed.

On the topic of paedophiles... they're material absolutely litters the net, this is the 10th time ive come accross some of their filth, I was searching in google for something totally unrelated to what came up ( edit-no porn site links-Gonz) a site devoted to perverted fiction (or truth.. who knows) particularily baby fuckers... God one glimps into that site had shivers going down my back... and this is apparently legal?!! Bah nothing pisses me off more than this crap!

that to me is a little different since back in MD 16 is the age of consent and here in NC its 15.(i dont see why its not 18 for all 50 states since that legally is adult but w/e). but the consensual part doesnt disturb me. its the ones who go after 10 year olds and younger that i have a problem with. and like paul said we are talking convicted ones. to me those are the ones that are a real problem. a 25 year old dating an 17 year old to me isnt as bad tho id be wary,

Since the age of consent here in the UK is 16, I would call them two consenting young adults. The idea of labelling a 25 year old as a paedophile for a consensual affair with a 17 year old is ridiculous to me, no different to calling a 17 year-old (19 yo in the states) a paedophile for having consensual sex with a 15 year old(17 yo). I do know that the police over here would be unlikely to pursue a conviction in those circumstances. Is my 17 yo niece's husband a paedophile because he's 22 yo? I think not! It's a difficult area. Where do we place the cut-off point? Now if he were 30/35/40 or older then I'd have a problem and so would they.

It's the sickos who lure young children children away from their parents and use and abuse them that are the problem imho. Also, those parents who see this as "normal" behaviour within a loving family. That we should be seriously concerned with not whether a 17yo has had sex with her 19 yo boyfriend.

By definition, if he/she is non-offending, then he/she is not a pedophile. One thing to think about...age of consent. If the partner is of age, then there is no crime. Where's the slope?

I agree with Oli, serial rapists or child molesters are alot like serial killers. The chances that they can be turned back are minimal. If statistically they are most likely to repeat the crime then they shouldn't be released. At any rate, releasing them back into society while at the same time making it impossible for them to live there is simply wrong.
