I have done it to a much lessor degree with a frosty spoon from a bowl of ice cream that was put into the freezer with the spoon in it so that it wouldn't melt while I had to go do something...

If they'd left the little dumbasses to die, that would be natural selection. OTOH, there's very little evidence that intelligence is actually a survival trait.

I would assume they'd pull their own tongues off the flagpole before they died...we don't know, they may have pulled them off themselves.
