Windows XP and drive sizes

Encountered a little interesting thing about XP today. It appears that it will do it's own form of drive translation. My laptop's BIOS only sees 8GB drives. However, when installing Windows XP on a new 11GB drive, XP created and setup a 11GB partition. Odd. I've never encountered this, then again, I've never installed XP under these types of conditions.

I got the drive because I wanted another drive with XP on it in addition to my main drive, which is a 9GB drive that has 2K on it. I want to have the option to use it when working with customers systems and doing onsite stuff.

So, has anyone encountered this yet?

That's what I thought. I figured I was going to get 8GB out of the drive. Instead, I got the entire drive. Right on. :)
