Race Results from October 4

Who would ever think that early October would be so nice and it was, as Local Motion Entertainment presented the annual “Eve of Destruction” at Wilmot Speedway, located on the grounds of the Kenosha fair. The good size crowd enjoyed over 2 and one half hours of “family fun”, during the final event of the 2008 season.

The Fearless 4 division, competes weekly here, brought out 10 cars and put on a ten lap dash for cash, that was won by 2008 champion, Shawn Kasten of Lake Geneva. Tyler Peterson, also of Lake Geneva was a close second. Kris Rigert from Bristol came in third, with Kevin Propeck of Burlington, rookie of the year Crystal O’Gorman out of Lake in the Hills, Illinois and Scott Redden from Woodstock,IL. rounding out the top six. The 15 lap feature was run with a chicane course track. Drivers picked their numbers then backed up to the fence and went clock wise. As the green came out, Kevin Propeck and Crystal O’Gorman jumped in front. O’Gorman missed a gear and fell back, before recovering. Propeck and Shawn Kasten, the new leader on lap seven, missed the chicane, but continued. Tim Redden in his first night out in two seasons, blew the engine with two laps to go, without causing any caution, but landed on the infield. The race ended with Kasten coming across the line first, Kevin Propeck was second, Crystal O’Gorman in her best showing during her first year was third, right along side Propeck. Eric Kuenstler a former Sycamore Speedway street driver out of Palatine, IL. was next, followed by Tim Redden. A post race decision dropped Kasten to last, due to his miss of the chicane. Everyone moved up and Kevin Propeck won his second feature of the season. Crowd favorite Crystal O’Gorman was second and the only driver out of the top three to race the whole course, in this exciting race.

The first demo derby was for the compact cars, with Kenosha driver Ryan Thomas surviving the action, of nearly 37 minutes. The final demo derby was the full size cars, when right off the bat, John Wittenberg of Fredonia, had his big boat jump the wall, landing on top of it.The race was stopped and the tow truck brought the Lincoln off the wall and the demo ensued one more time. After just over 48 minutes, John Wittenberg won the race and became the first driver to accomplish that feat, before taking the win. Drivers from over 120 miles away came to participate.

The big attraction was next, the popular trailer race, with 15 entries taking the green flag, drivers from three states were on hand. When the dust and debris cleared, Matt Thurber from Deerfield, IL. was the winner. Earlier the crowd picked Bob Bonicoro all the way from New York City, New York winning the best looking vehicle and trailer by the noise from the crowd cheering giving him the win.

The crowd picked Wilmot starter Todd Booker from parts unknown, the roll over king at the speedway. Mike Warner of Pell Lake was a close second. Booker rolled his 1998 Ford Escort some 3 and one half times. Warner nearly missed the whole ramp, but managed to get a one and one half flip.

The Simons family, along with Gary Brown all from Local Motion Entertainment would like to thank everyone for their support this season and despite five rain outs it was a great season. Fans and drivers should watch the website for details for the up coming 2009 season and the 2008 awards banquet at Rompoles Banquet halls in Twin Lakes.
