fascism and socialism are more alike than most realize. They share a totalitarian political structure as an unavoidable end result, but they do have vastly different ideologies on economics. When you call someone left wing or right wing, do you mean on social or economic issues?

You are not free to commit libel. You are not free to make public information which is given in confidence. You are not free to transfer information to a third party which is damaging to a person, company, or government (i.e., classified information, trade secrets, etc.). etc...

I voted for the miminal limits; those being protection from libel and slander, as well as some restraints on making known information which compromises national (or global, whatever) security. IOW, pretty close to the way the US handles freedom of speech.

It's not libel. Libel is making a statement of fact (in "written form", whether through print, pictures, etc.) that is in fact false and damaging to someone's reputation. Phelps is making a statement of opinion. That is not a statement of fact, and cannot be considered libel, as an opinion...

Read the last line I wrote. That's why our courts are allowed to judge cases on an individual basis, even overturning or going against precendent when felt necessary. We don't have to lump all of one "kind" of thing together and make a blanket rule. Slippery slope, but one that's not...

While I would like to belive that our world is such a place where your ideals are adequate, but unfortunately it is not. I really don't like the idea of any government control over what parents teach their children, but the practical side of me has to wonder if it is not needed in at least some...
