    Left Wing Right Wing Nazis!

fascism and socialism are more alike than most realize. They share a totalitarian political structure as an unavoidable end result, but they do have vastly different ideologies on economics. When you call someone left wing or right wing, do you mean on social or economic issues?

Defining the Global "Freedom of Speech"

Re: Defining the Global All US guaranteed "freedoms" are a contract between you and the government. If you don't accept the terms of the agreement, no one will stop you from leaving. I would assume many other countries are similar.

Defining the Global "Freedom of Speech"

You are not free to commit libel. You are not free to make public information which is given in confidence. You are not free to transfer information to a third party which is damaging to a person, company, or government (i.e., classified information, trade secrets, etc.). etc...

Defining the Global "Freedom of Speech"

Re: Defining the Global sigh. Your rights end where someone else's rights begin. That's where you draw the line. Your right to child porn interferes with the child's rights. Your right to freely swing your fist ceases when you get close to my face. Your right to freely spread...

Defining the Global "Freedom of Speech"

I voted for the miminal limits; those being protection from libel and slander, as well as some restraints on making known information which compromises national (or global, whatever) security. IOW, pretty close to the way the US handles freedom of speech.

    Inhuman religious zealot goes mad!

It's not libel. Libel is making a statement of fact (in "written form", whether through print, pictures, etc.) that is in fact false and damaging to someone's reputation. Phelps is making a statement of opinion. That is not a statement of fact, and cannot be considered libel, as an opinion...

So... what... you think we should just pull all the troops out now and let the country utterly rot? I think not.

    Is this far enough?

Read the last line I wrote. That's why our courts are allowed to judge cases on an individual basis, even overturning or going against precendent when felt necessary. We don't have to lump all of one "kind" of thing together and make a blanket rule. Slippery slope, but one that's not...

    Is this far enough?

While I would like to belive that our world is such a place where your ideals are adequate, but unfortunately it is not. I really don't like the idea of any government control over what parents teach their children, but the practical side of me has to wonder if it is not needed in at least some...

Interesting note Bish. For the people that would push the button in all circumstances, how would you feel about... (7) 100 random people? (8) 1000...? (9) Name a number lower than what cancer kills in a day, year, ever, whatever...? (10) All of your current friends? (11) All of your...

If you could push a button and...

The ages old philosophical question. I've never believed there was a "right" or a "wrong" answer, since the question is thankfully such an extreme hypothetical and something we don't have to face in normal life. I still find it interesting from time to time to poll people's opinions and...
