    Debate

Arianna is a freaking disturbed and disturbing psycho. Man, listening to her gives me the chills. I can't imagine people actually electing someone like that, but I suppose anything is possible. (go ahead, let the GWBush comments commence...)

Kazaa fights back: sues record industry

Well that doesn't make any sense. Kazaa standard version is available free from Kazaa on Kazaa's website. Now, if Metallica posted mp3's available on Metallica's website free for download directly from them, you might have some kind of analogy. Just because songs are available "somewhere"...

Kazaa fights back: sues record industry

Standard Kazaa is free for download off of their site. Out of curiosity, what makes it "authorized" or "unauthorized?"

"A man with big hands walks lightly in the grass, but always carries loose change." That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

Hmm... I'll assume then that you are pleased to have finally found an adequate answer to your question. :nerd:

12 year old girl slapped with RIAA charge

Well, if you want to get technical, it is only legal to rip a CD to mp3's when using RIAA approved hardware that (1) may have some form of multi-generation copy protection and more importantly (2) includes a royalty payment to the RIAA as part of the purchase cost. As an example, it is legal...

Yet another country misses chemical weapon deadline

Out of curiosity, just how big of a percentage has the US already destroyed? 3%? 30%? I know they just incinerated a butt-load of mustard gas not too far from here...

99% chance of being a hoax but still a good read

Prof, there are plenty of physicists who think that cts's would be prohibited. Besides, a ctc doesn't remove the necessity of the time machine being present at both departure and arrival times... in fact, the nature of it being a closed loop clearly suggests that the departure and arrival times...

prof, thanks for bringing some reality into this thread.

99% chance of being a hoax but still a good read

As far as I know, every "expert" opinion on the subject that I've ever read agrees that travel is only possible to a worldline that contains essentially an identical, functional time machine.

99% chance of being a hoax but still a good read

Yes, it's a theory. And from an epistemologocial POV, I see no reason to think otherwise when every solution of two radically differing ways of describing reality, both of which have been confirmed to a mind boggling degree of accuracy, points to the necessity of a time machine existing on both...

99% chance of being a hoax but still a good read

Just telling it like it is. ;) Every logically consistent solution of relativity and every logically consistent discussion of quantum mechanics I've encountered has had a common attribute: time travel to the "past" is restricted to "times" in which the time machine has existed. If we consider...

99% chance of being a hoax but still a good read

for hex... ;) Traveling back in time on a single worldline is logically impossible. Traveling to another worldline that looks like the past of your worldline is not logically impossible, but may well prove physically impossible.

    The First Computer Bug

Even more odd... A couple of years ago my ex went out of town for several days. When she came back her G3 laptop was infested with ants - not on the laptop, but in it. It had been laying on the floor of her room. There were no ants in her room, or elsewhere in the apartment... just in her...

99% chance of being a hoax but still a good read

Oh. I glanced through some of the material about Titor on a couple of sites and for some reason thought it was a longer period. Still, this guy went through a lot of trouble to plan out this hoax. IMO, this guy is one messed up individual. His theme is that the paranoid shotgun weilding...

99% chance of being a hoax but still a good read

Yeah, 99.99 some-odd % chance of it being a hoax, but the guy that pulled it off was one smart mother. He had to get his shit together on a variety of subjects before attempting such a hoax, and the documentation he produced (diagrams, pictures, models built, etc.) took a lot of work. And...

Obligatory 6 month digital camera thread

A thread like this pops up a couple of times a year, and since it's now me that is interested in buying one, I figured it might as well be me that started one. I'm leaning towards the ~$300 range, figuring that is the sweet spot right now for pixel count, features, image quality, ease of use...
