Damn that's a high percentage. 40,000 of our 626,000pop. With our population every person in Alaska could have approximately 1 square mile of land to themselves(656,424 sq/m). Compare that to Californias(31,317,179pop) & (163,707sq/m) .0052 of a square mile or 144,967 sq feet per person & to Alaskas 2,787,000 sq feet respectively.

May well be an indication of lack of employment opportunities in Alaska or is it just a case of "the grass is always greener" and that Alaskans want to get away from Alaska? :)

Alaskans love Alaska(even though i want out). I just think that non-Alaskans fear it and think of it as far away land. Alaska also has 6,640 miles of coastline(twice that of the entire lower 48) to defend with navy and coastguard and then we're within walking distance of Russia and so we have a good deal of air force protecting us.
