According to reports published in Norwegian newspapers today, Norwegian Minister of Defense Kristin Krohn Devold is one of the top two contenders to become the next General Secretary of NATO, the other main candidate being Portugese EU commissioner Antonio Vitorino.

(snip)

In fact, Ms. Devold was dubbed Krigs-Kristin ("War-Kristin") after she proudly yet controversially posed in military gear for Scandinavian Airlines' in-flight magazine Scanorama just as the war broke out in Iraq -- and newspaper Dagbladet in their editorial space mockingly called her "our own Rumsfeld" (photo: Devold with Rumsfeld at the Pentagon). In addition to being pro-American, she's openly in favor of the modernization transformation of NATO, further proving that she's more than competent enough to handle the position.

Sadly, although the Norwegian Conservative Party used to be rather pro-American, many Norwegian conservatives have abandoned their principles lately, in order to be able to stay in their positions in the ruling coalition government, promoting the worst possible official position on the war: "Ask Kofi Annan!"

Devold, however, has stayed true to her values from the beginning -- defending America as much and as often as she can, and splendidly so. In my opinion, entrusting her with the top NATO job would be a suitable reward for her outstanding integrity, and a nice encouragement for other European Friends of America to "come out" as well. Vote Devold!
:D Sounds good.
