a question about unicef

is there anything bad about unicef?
i come from a family that has always supported them, an area that has always trick or treated for them, etc...

i've never heard anything bad about them,

but i'm always afraid that someone, someday, will hit me with a "WELL UNICEF DOES BLAH BLAH BLAH WHICH IS BAD FOR THIS OTHER THING AND STUFF" kind of thing and i will cry.

i still will always support unicef, but i would like to know if anyone knows if opposition to the organization even exists, because i may just be sheltered but i sure haven't heard any myself and i want to know what i could potentially be up against.

Corruption would be the most likely charge, it's easy to do when an organization is taking in millions and is supposed to be distributing it to various not for profit or other charitable groups. The temptation to pocket some of what you're collecting is always there.

Now, I haven't heard of anything of this sort, but if you want to know what you might here, this is most likely it. Keep in mind this sort of thing is an individual thing though, not usually organization wide.

I like UNICEF. It's one I'll donate to without pause, and I haven't heard anything negative.

I'll donate to local charities, where I can see what their doing. And improve my own neighbourhood. Frankly, I can't see any good reason to send money to a country where their own people are more interested in personal power than the well being of their own, when I've starving and needy right here.

UNICEF has been around for ages. I, however, have serious doubts on whether the UN can handle those funds...especially after the UNESCO and oil-for-food scandals...Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...
