WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Even if people stopped pumping out carbon dioxide and other pollutants tomorrow, global warming would still get worse, two teams of researchers reported on Thursday.

Sea levels will rise more than they have already risen, worsening the damage caused by extreme high tides and storm surges, and droughts, heat waves and storms will become more severe, the climate experts predicted.

That makes immediate action to slow global warming even more vital, the teams at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado report in the journal Science.

"Even if we stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations, the climate will continue to warm, and there will be proportionately even more sea level rise," said the NCAR's Gerald Meehl, who led one of the two studies.

"The longer we wait, the more climate change we are committed to in the future."

Virtually no one disagrees human activity is fueling global warming, and a global treaty signed in Kyoto, Japan, aims to reduce polluting emissions. But the world's biggest polluter, the United States, has withdrawn from the 1997 treaty, saying its provisions would hurt the U.S. economy.

See this is what I Really don't get.
Instead of looking for a way to fix the problem, which can't be fixed by humans
with our current knowledge, shouldn't we be looking more towards space travel or something?

If we don't, and we don't figure out a way to fix it, What?...
Some generation down the road is going to fry?

If we do find a fix for it, what does what we are currently doing, have to do with it?
We can fix it.

Hey, I just had a brainstorm.
I wonder if that same logic could be applied to SS... :nerd:  :devious:

You know, it won't get so hot that we can't live here.

If archeology's timetable is correct, the ice caps will continue to melt over the next several centuries until they disappear (which they have done before). Sea level will of course rise accordingly. At some point in this process (and theories abound as to why), ocean currents and weather patterns change. It seems obvious to me that this is a natural progression, but what do I know. Anyway, the poles stop getting warm water and air from the equator and start to cool again, eventually leading to the next ice age. It has happened over and over for millions of years. These cycles take tens of thousands of years to complete and they will do so with or without our contribution. The chicken little enviro-terrorists are trying to instill fear to advance their political agenda (and isn't that the definition of terrorism whether you blow shit up or not).

"We're all going to die." Guess what? We are all going to die. Probably not because of "the runaway greenhouse effect" though.

Whose fault is that? The writer or the editor? It is a blatant lie with false accusations & has anti-US sentiment. Where's the bias in this fair & balanced reporting?
