I just removed 235+ infected files from my PC all related to IE...I quit using IE two years ago....what an incredibly fucked up browser.

Anybody else have any unbelievebale tales about IE? Tales that make you wonder why IE isn't made illegalto use yet due to its serious incompetence.

I have never used IE, ever.

*unless builtin in some apps which it impossible to use another browser instead.

I've been using Firefox at home for the last few months. It got to the point where as soon as I opened IE I got warnings from Spybot or Nortons. I still clean with Spybot and AdAware weekly and it still finds stuff. Haven't been able to get the kids to use Firefox all the time yet. Guess I need to just delete it off the start menu altogether.

where do you guys surf? I use IE 98% of the time and I have some spyware that I clean weekly but I've NEVER had a problem with it. I have clicked a few baitesd links that cause 'pop-up mainia' to attack (a counter of F4 usually will shut those down thoo)

do you surf pr0n or wharez sites, I mean sheez why duz you all get infected surfing? wtf

Yea, what he said. The only virus I've ever had in my sytem never got released. I dl'ed it lookng for a freeware proggy....yea, that's it freeware

I think the porn is probably most of it, although I've gotten a few from "freeware" sites as well.

Cookies are the most likely culprit, IC. Those nasty little buggers can be run without even starting up IE. Or, at least, that's what my old boss tried to say when he had a bunch of porn popup windows come up when Windows started on the office PC. :D :D

Anyway...where the hell did you browse that you got 235 infected files? Even when I used IE for everything, I never got that much spyware. Maybe 5 or 10 spyware cookies, or the occasional homepage hijack.

IE still seems to be less bloated than any other browser.
It takes 4 time as long to load Firefox, initially, than ie6.
I use a program called "Don't Panic" and have it set to clear
certain things when ever I hit the panic bar. I use AVG, Adaware, Spybot,
and Browser Hijack Blaster. I like the other features that I have
already setup with ie, like the spell checker, roboform, and a few other plugins.
I do like the tabbed thing that ie doesn't have, but I don't use it that much anyway.
I've have several viruses that the avg realtime protection caught, since
my last fresh install about a year ago. The system is still smooth as silk.
Of coarse I do have a couple of registry cleaner/optimizer programs,
and do some other routine maintenance, but no problems.
Even if I used a different browser all the time, I'd still do these cleanings.

I use PestPatrol corporate, we bought it after some research at work and it's pretty good. I think the home version is 40 bucks. We have to use IE @ work because we have to be able to access Goodyear's corporate site for ordering, accounting, etc. I have the satellite locations internet access choked down, but was instructed to give everyone in the office full access (every time I see a comet cursor or a new screensaver, I cringe). I'm like cat, though. I'd be doing weekly checks no matter what browser we used. I don't think it's less bloated, cat, I think it's just that it's integrated with the OS.
