EL PASO, Texas — A man accused of illegally stockpiling nearly 2,400 warheads appeared before a federal magistrate on Monday and was told prosecutors will try to hold him without bond.
"The complaint alleges that you possessed destructive devices, in this case missiles, that were not registered to you," Magistrate Judge Michael S. McDonald told David Hudak, who stood in a line with more than a dozen people accused of drug smuggling, immigrant smuggling and other charges.
U.S. law requires that such weapons be registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record. Officials have said Hudak, president of High Energy Access Tools Corp. in Roswell, N.M., didn't have the proper permits. The company trains police emergency response teams and anti-terrorism units.
