Argh! I've got invaders....

.... ANTS!... it's only March for god's sake and the little fuckers are invading my bedroom... I noticed when they decided to have a conference on my desk! Plenty of squishing ensued...

Every year they try to get into my kitchen and every year I try to keep them out... so this year they've decided to try my bedroom ... well I just dusted my back step with ant powder so get past that you little bastards!

It doesn't make any difference they come back every year. :(

But if I dust along the bottom of the house wall they get the message and stay out. I just have to remember to keep everything in sealed cannisters. They're not like american ants - they're the black variety so they don't bite - and they're a nuisance more than anything else. Plus they make me fell itchy.

Anyway I haven't seen any more since I dusted and vacumned up the escapees....

I need to get some more ant powder. :)

My dad has also been fighting little black ants for the better part of 15 years. I'm convinced that there is a modest sized colony/nest built up behind one of the walls in the basement support structure. No amount of professional spraying or household chemicals will stave off the armada for more than a few days.

I've had them ever since I moved in here 5 years ago, they're resistent little bastards. Usually we battle it out for a few weeks and then they go elsewhere. I don't usually get them this early in the year but it's been very mild and spring-like for the last week or so... knowing british weather that won't hold though.

I get ants every year. And nothing gets them I've tried the power, the spray, traps, baits. Nothing stops them

I'm seeing hills in my yard again already. Bait does NOT work on black ants. Drown the little bastards in Spectracide, and you've got about half a chance.

At the cottage we get the monster ants. About half an inch long. I spent the better part of a day picking them off with a BB gun. I was getting pretty good towards the end.

I enjoyed the feeling of power setting up magnifying glasses focused on the exits of anthills. Ten or fifteen glasses and they start running out of options and have to run the gaunlet. The lava moat of wax was fun too. Until the clouds spoilled my fun.

Can of gas and a match.....hours of entertainment. Note: for best visual results, do at night. Also works for undergound beehives.

Aunty, a cheap way to get rid of ants, if you get some peppermint essence (essential oils), and put a few deops where they're coming from, they'll bugger off ;)

Just a thought, use it, don't use it :D

indeed. I've heard of that method. If you swab a strong oil base along the edges of your rooms it will mask and kill the chemical trail that they guide by. You may get one or two scouts... but not an invading trail.

Eucalyptus, peppermint, spearamint, ...rosemary oil might work.

Nothing is more satisfying than using an aresolized petroleum and flame.
I personally like using boiling water straight from the kettle :D

Canadians tend to frown on blowing up bits of their country.

onto a mound? ... yes.. thats my favorite too. Its good fireant killjoy.

also... tea tree oil, lavendar, essential oils of citronella, lemon oil.

Might as well make the house smell like a scented candle factory.:)
