Arnold Films Likely Won't Air During Election Period

Equal Time Provision Will Affect Coleman Show, Too

POSTED: 8:31 a.m. EDT August 13, 2003

The Terminator likely won't "be back" on California television until after Oct. 7.

Broadcast networks will probably have to wait until after the California gubernatorial recall election to air such Arnold Schwarzenegger movies as "True Lies," "The Terminator" or "Total Recall" to avoid other candidates asking for the same air time under the FCC's equal time provision.

That also means episodes of Gary Coleman's "Diff'rent Strokes" or old "Saturday Night Live" shows featuring Don Novello (Father Guido Sarducci) won't likely air, either.

Schwarzenegger, Coleman and Novello are three of the 240-plus candidates in election to recall California Gov. Gray Davis.

This isn't the first time the equal time provision has affected a celebrity political candidate. Reruns of Ronald Reagan's "Death Valley Days" were kept off the air when he ran for president.

Cable channels will still be able to air candidates films and television shows because they are not covered by the provision.

I just finished watching different strokes and now i've just GOTTA cast a vote for the cute black kid!

Are you ready to be scared? Are you really ready? Truly? OK, hold on to your hat 'cause here it comes.

As of right now, with all the hoopla going on in CA regarding the recall, I'd consider voting for him. He was on the local AM station this morning & he actually has more of a spoken agenda than Arnold. He spoke of lowering income & sales taxes as well as starting construction on a couple of desalination plants.

He, of course, knows he has no chance.

heaven forbid anyone should vote for the guy with the policies, anyone would think this is a political election not a famous people popularity contest.
