Police in southwestern China discovered 28 baby girls hidden in suitcases on a long-distance bus and apparently destined to be sold, police and a state-run newspaper said.

One of the babies had died by the time police, acting on a tip-off, found them Tuesday night on the bus at a highway toll gate in Bingyang, Guangxi province, the Beijing Morning News said.

Police at the Bingyang police station confirmed the case and told AFP more than 20 suspects had been arrested.

"The babies are fine. More than 20 people have been arrested," one police officer said, refusing to comment further.

I'm not sure about that. Authorities in China use to look other way in cases like these. With a 1,5 billion people, they kind of enforce the killing of baby girls :(
 
It is probably the only chance these baby girls had of living at all.
 
Exactly. It's easy to use our yardstick to measure things. But in some places, the distance between attrocity and Godsend isn't quite so far.
 
Interesting point i hadn't thought about. Not sure i exactly buy it though but it would make sense if it were true.
 
Infantaside is common in China when the baby is a girl. They are only allowed one child under their zero population growth program so naturally, they want boys to carry on the family name.
 
I'm pretty informed about what goes on in China. Like i said if this were the case in this situation it would be totally understandable. Picturing this humanitarian person rescuing these babies the only way she knew how. But chances are she was doing it for cash not because she was overly concerned with these children. And even if we consider this point irrelivent(whether or not she cares) the odds are these children would probably have ended up as slaves rather than happy adopted children. Also, kids(girls) in China don't automatically have to be killed if you don't want them. There are places you can take them. Just as in this case these children, at least the ones who lived, were taken to a school and the local government has put some money aside for them. Although not beautiful there are options. Even i would just love to believe that these kids were getting the best they could but i'm not niave enough to believe it. Even these Chinese police said they were beside themselves with suprise and i do believe that.
 
They were part of the trade selling to childless couples - the alternative is an orphanage were many die before the age of 5 due to lack of basic facilities such as medical care - only the strongest survive. Apparently older girls are also sold as wives in areas where there are few single females of marriable age.

There are still many countries in the world where girls are not valued in the same way as boys. One question - if they all have boys where is the next generation going to come from?

i envy you. i wouldnt be. id just kill the sick fucks. sorry but i dont see them any other way. there is adoption and i am also pro-choice so do it before its born. they should be locked in suitcases themselves. poor kids cant help but feel shitty now.

i heard that your allowed 2 now?? but that the same rule applies to girls infanticide is allowed if its a girl. im sorry but thats just sad. women and men are equals arent they?? i was raised to think they are so to hear this either male or female makes me sick.

Try being a women in any arab state, africa, india or asia.

Truly sad aunty, i myself cannot see killing babies as normal as they do, i stopped speaking to a mate of mine after he told everyone it was'nt his when he had his new baby daughter cause she was a girl (indian bloke, dumbasses) and then treated hs wife really horribly like she had plague, people are DUMB. Freako, Jamaica the island? women are pretty equal there!
