This reminds me of like when you have a kid, and they
give you some of the same grief you gave your parents
when you were around that age.
(what comes around goes around type of thing)

It seem Lebanon has matured a little, especially after we went into Iraq,
an I just wonder how far they may get more on-board now with the program.

The people say Syria is behind it...[smartass]ya think?[/smartass]

I never understood assassinating 'ex' political leaders.

Consider what he did for Lebanon. He took a country that has been war-ravaged for decades & had the gall to attempt to improve it. Terrorists don't seem to like freedom or nice stuff.

No no no. Havent you guys been reading about this at all? He was killed (we are to assume) because he was a very powerful very influential dude who used to work with the Syrians and of late had been very outspoken against them and wanted them out of Lebanon. Apparently certain people were concerned enough about this that they decided the only alternative was to kill him and do it in a way that wouldnt risk leaving him alive and wounded and mad as hell. So they blew the crap out of his entire entourage with enough explosives that it made a fire storm on a busy downtown Beirut street and a crater more then 30 feet deep in the road. We're talking multiple armored personnel transport vehicles burning like card board boxes.

Now the obvious supposition is that Syria did it because he was getting too influential in his push against the Syrian occupation of Lebanon. And there are some pretty powerful people IN Lebanon who make a LOT of money off these ties and perhaps a deal was worked out and the assassination was hatched. But we dont know for sure YET. I mean if you think about it wouldnt Syria fear that they would be a serious back lash toward them over this that may lead to the very thing that this guy was supposedly calling for? So the plot thickens... And other players emerge. Iran... who may have wanted to detract the spot light from its nuclear program. I have even heard some whisper about Israel who may have wanted to provoke america into being more hard line with Syria. But at this point that seems just a touch wacky.

But whats scary is the size of the attack and the fact that this was done in day time in downtown Beirut against a BILLIONAIRE a former head of state and one of the most powerful men in the country. Clearly they are saying hey if we can do this to this guy NO one is safe. Back away or you get the same fate.

Yep. The War on Terror would be a good idea. Several ME nations to join.
