The main difference between a singer and a vocalist.

Steven Tyler is a singer. He has abused his voice to the point of being unrecognizable when compared to his earlier stuff.

Paul Stanley is a vocalist. His voice actually sounds stronger at 50 than it did at 20.
 
Steve'll be lucky if he can talk at all in a few years.

I wonder if the surgery is related to this other illness, or if it was brought up to throw people off?

They've cancelled a bunch of shows lately due to his voice.
