BUFFALO, N.Y. A Buffalo firefighter is talking again after nearly a decade in a brain-damaged state.

Donald Herbert suffered severe injuries when a roof collapsed on him while he was fighting a fire in December 1995. The injury left him brain damaged and unable to speak.

Herbert has been at a Buffalo-area nursing home for the past several years, but relatives say over the weekend he started talking again and his memory returned.

Friends and former colleagues say he talked with his family and with former co-workers.

Gonz, please, post either a link or the whole story. Something MUST be missing, your blurb doesn't mention congress at all...

That is the whole story. Google, "firefighter, talking" & look in the news section. Not a single instance of Congress or mistress' or children with a new (non) spouse or anything.

Brain damaged people do indeed like apples, and oranges Ask Terry, she'll tell you.

You know, I once assumed that neutronium was the densest material in the known universe... ;)

he was given an experimental cocktail of drugs that included anti-parkinsons meds. he also hasnt had the level of clarity that he experienced that one day again. he is doing a bit better, but basically not much difference from before.
there was another case similar to his. some kid that suffered brain damage from a motorcycle accident. he was given a similar mixture of meds and had the same results. sadly, he too hasnt regained much of anything.
