Blackhawk Down

Just watched the BlackHawk Down documentary on the history channel again. I couldn't bring myself to watch the movie after being priviledged to such an accurate first hand account. So much of what happened or (didn't happen) rests on the shoulders of the higher ups, primarily the commander in chief.
I wonder how many people have starved to death in somalia because of and since our withdrawl. Then there was the Rwandan genocide in which 800,000 were slaughtered because we didn't want to risk intervention. I wonder what Bill clintons definition of peacekeeper is. I couldn't quite put a finger on it during the oslo accords but something seemed wrong about the way Clinton was going about the process. Looking backnow i think that he wasn't actually concerned about peace but about putting his name in the history books. I think history will remember Bill Clinton, but not in the way he wants.

I was going to say also what's the point in having the armed forces armed if what we're doing isn't worth killing and dying for? If you're going to just let them run out at the first sign of danger why make them carry those heavy guns and combat boots. Atleast give them some Nikes.

I found it a rather distubing & moving movie. I was pre-disposed at that time in my life (no, not in jail) and don't recall much of the actual news accounts. The movie, like all Hollywood entertainment, lightens up too much & makes serious things that weren't, so take it with a grain of salt & watch it. Worth every penny.

[edit]oh yea, re Slick WIllie. He was getting blown when our guys were getting blown away. He will look incredibly foolish in history, as will the Congress & the American people.
