... from 12 - 7 volts or can I only do this with a 4 pin molex connection?

And can someone point me in the direction of simple molex instructions for the mod for a complete idiot (as far as electrics go anyway)?
 
It's really pretty easy. You take the yellow wire(+12V) from one side of the molex and connect it to the red wire on your fan. Then take the red wire (+5v) from the other side of the molex and connect it to your black wire on the fan. Leave the two black wires in the middle alone, or snip them off and tape them, if you want. With the +12 Positive, and +5 as the ground, you end up with a +7 Net. Works great for quieting a savage beast. You do have to be careful though, some power supplies don't like it, and I wouldn't run a hard drive off the same set of wires.
