Jefferson Davis Middle school in Palm Beach County, Fla. will soon change its name to one considered less “divisive” by some members of the community, reports the Palm Beach Post.

The idea of children, especially black children, attending a school whose namesake fought on the wrong side of the Civil War is unacceptable to some. They want it renamed Palm Springs Middle school.

"I don't think we should name a school after Adolf Hitler," said school board member Debra Robinson, who is black. "It's really at that level with Jeff Davis. I don't think we should name schools for anybody that represents intolerance or straight-up hatred."

You're right. I'll start a list of all the Martin Luther King schools in America and we'll get right to renaming those too while we're at it.

For the thousandth time, people, learn your history. Slavery was outlawed by the Confederate Constitution. The celebrated Emancipation Proclamation only outlawed it in certain areas of the country.

Sheesh.

As I have pointed out (and been ridiculed for) many times, history is written by the winners. It frequently has only a passing acquaintance with actual events. Almost no one cares about what happened, just their interpretation of what they were told happened. :shrug:

Let me see if I understand this fully Chic: You spoke the truth and got ridiculed for it? Somehow doesnt seem right.



As far as the name goes: I was not aware that slavery was outlawed by the Southern Constitution. Not sure also what they meant by "wrong side"(If it was going on I would choose Union personally but the Confederates had their reasons for wanting to be separate) so it seems like they just want to be asses. Unless the name was Stalin school or Hitler High then a name change would be for the best IMO.
 
Vietnam almost worked. Until we followed the lib idea & pulled out, thereby allowing over 3 million Asians to be murdered by communists. :p
