NEW YORK - In a stunning move, cable TV giant Comcast Corp. proposed early Wednesday to buy Walt Disney Co., the iconic entertainment powerhouse, for stock valued at about $54 billion. It said Disney chief Michael Eisner had rebuffed its request for talks.

It'll be interesting to watch. Eisner has a great deal of control in Disney (enough to win against Disney family members), and says he doesn;t want it. Unless he's just posturing, that's going to make it tough for Comcast.

It's no longer in his hands

The Disney board said it would study the offer, which would create the world's largest communications company.

Doesn't the board want him gone?

Not all of the board want him gone.

I never said Eisner couldn't be gotten around. It would simply take a strong, united front by either the board or the stockholders. That isn;t going to be easy to pull off.

Either way, it's a great spectator sport.

Christ... If they can come up with 54 billion to buy up Disney, why not just go ahead and do a leveraged buyout of an entire state? Welcome to Comcastiana!

Coz they're not allowed to collect taxes, but they'd still have to pay to pave the roads, and have garbage picked up.

Cal isn't full of commies. They like having private land ownership. They're socialists.

With the unbalanced media emphasis on SF and LA, there is some twisted impression that CA is primarily liberal. However, this is the state that gave us Reagan, remember? that elected Schwarzenegger? I've always found it to be more conservative than liberal.

And elected Sonny Bono, and Clit Eastwood. Seems like common sense hit the rockies and turned north.

You just emphasized my point, Prof. Both of them were very conservative, politically. Bono entered the House of Representatives on the 1994 Republican wave, and Clint Eastwood was a part of Reagan's California neo-conservatism.

dictionary.com:

ne·o·con·ser·va·tism also ne·o-con·ser·va·tism n.
An intellectual and political movement in favor of political, economic, and social conservatism that arose in opposition to the perceived liberalism of the 1960s: “The neo-conservatism of the 1980s is a replay of the New Conservatism of the 1950s, which was itself a replay of the New Era philosophy of the 1920s” (Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.).

my point was, it could have stopped here
An intellectual and political movement in favor of political, economic, and social conservatism

Sorry, I wasn't born early enough to be pre-neo
