Missed this completely. The story linked below is less than accurate (they failed to mention several albums the band did after he returned to the group), but it's all I could find. Maybe not the most trained voice in rock and roll, but one of the more distinctive. Rest in peace, bro.

Yes, several times. Danny Joe, God love him, seems to have partied himself to death.

The booze would flare up his diabetes, and over time this likely led to his pancreatitis. As a sufferer from both ailments, I know that pancreatitis has two primary causes...booze and triglyceride elevation (my culprit). He left Hatchet when his diabetes prevented him from performing, then rejoined a few years later. In the last few years, he has been unable to perform on stage with any consistency. The interview I read, from 2000, was depressing as hell. Pitiful really. I understand that in many ways he did this to himself, but damn what a voice.
