Deadbeat mom's???

Looks like men aren't so bad after all when it comes to taking care of their responsibilities...

Single dads are sick and tired of being labeled "deadbeats" when it comes to paying child support. And data suggest they have good reason to be upset.

The percentage of "deadbeat" moms is actually higher than that of dads who won't pay, even though mothers are more consistently awarded custody of children by the courts.

my opinion has always been this one: if you want to take care of your child, do it by yourself, and without the other's money. If you can't afford the child then the other should have the custody.

oh i never thought of that :D

well, in that case it would be fair to work harder or get a better job. No money from the other parent.

they accept the fact that they're not getting divorced until each one can afford to support the child.

this makes me think about single mothers, and is the same but "upside down", while many single mothers were first single and then had a child, most married couples had the child first and then they divorced.

Either way, it is their problem, they should be responsables of their actions, and they should think about it better before getting divorced.

Personally (and somewhat tentatively for a change), I would say that when there is no marriage contract, the baby belongs to the woman completely. She has all the rights, as well as the responsibilities. If she chooses to have the baby, then it's hers to take care of. She could offer to share rights and responsibilities with the father under a mutually acceptable agreement, but she doesn't have to, and he doesn't have to accept.

Where there's a marriage contract, though, the husband shares in the rights and responsibilities-- with the one exception the woman always has final say about whether to have the child or not. (Not saying that the husband should necessarily accept the decision with equanimity, just that he doesn't have the right to force her to have it.)

There-in lies the bone of contention. The man/husband cannot force the woman/wife to have the child or have an abortion, but the man/husband is forced to pay up when the child is born whether he wants the child or not. Marriage contract or not, the man pays. The one change I would like to see in child-support laws is itemization. If the man has to pay a certain amount per month, the woman/man has to show where the money goes.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 7, 43-year-old Derrick K. Miller walked up to a security guard at the entrance to the San Diego Courthouse, where a family court had recently ruled against him on overdue child support.

Clutching court papers in one hand, he drew out a gun with the other. Declaring: "You did this to me," he fatally shot himself through the skull.

Miller's suicide is symbolic of a frightening global trend: an alarming rise in male suicides. According to a round of studies conducted in North America, Europe and Australia, one reason for the increase may be the discrimination fathers encounter in family courts, especially the denial of access to their children.

I wholeheartedly agree. But, sex with a stranger or a long term girlfriend, at some point, will most likely impregnate the woman. So, there is a choice, before the fact...masturbate. The law needs to be changed regarding married couples though.:mix0red:[/quote]
