Democrat urges inaguration day anti-Bush boycott

David Livingstone of Detroit, along with some anti-Bush groups, is trying to get a boycott of big businesses going for January 20, which is inaguration day. At least this isn't as dumb as the Democrat who shot himself at Ground Zero.

Here's my favorite part of the story:

Livingstone, a 41-year-old writer, hopes to be in Washington for the Jan. 20 festivities, which for him means protests, black armbands and backs turned to the parade route.

And he's vowing not to buy gas, food or use his credit card that day: He wants the GOP, big oil, big banking, big box stores and any other "bigs" to know they can't push him around or ignore him — at least not on Jan. 20.

So he'll probably have to buy gas on the days before and after the 19th, and stock up on food on the 19th to be able to eat on the 20th. Smart. Real smart.

A big reason the Montgomery Bus Boycott worked is because the black people walked instead of taking the bus, and continued to do so until their demands were met. If they'd done any of this "boycott for a day" bullshit, I can guarantee you nothing would have changed.

Newsflash: Kerry lost. Get over it. Life goes on.

Maybe Arlo Guthrie needs to talk to this feller about having his fingerprints enshrined in some manilla folder somewhere in Washington D.C. (Shrink....I wanna kill....) :D

"Father-rapers, father-rapers right there on the bench next to me..." :D

Seriously, I don't like Bush either, but grow the fuck up.

I received this email recently from a friend who clearly does not know my political preferences:
"Not One Damn Dime" Day - Jan 20, 2005

A sizeable majority of the American people now say that it was a
mistake and a blunder to invade Iraq and wage war there.

Since our religious leaders will not speak out against the war in
Iraq, since our political leaders don't have the moral courage to oppose it
publicly, let's make Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20th, 2005
"Not One Damn Dime Day" in America.

On "Not One Damn Dime Day" if you are among those who oppose what is
happening in our name in Iraq, you can speak up with a 24-hour national
boycott of all forms of consumer spending. During "Not One Damn Dime
Day" please don't spend money. Not one damn dime for gasoline. Not one
damn dime for necessities or for impulse purchases. Not one damn dime
for anything for 24 hours.

On "Not One Damn Dime Day," please join us in boycotting Wal-Mart,
Kmart, Target... Please don't go to ! the mall or the local convenience
store. Please don't buy any fast food (or any groceries at all for that
matter). For 24 hours, please do what you can to shut the retail
economy down. The object is simple. Remind the people in power that
the war in Iraq is immoral and illegal; that they are responsible for
starting it and that it is their responsibility to stop it.

"Not One Damn Dime Day" is to remind them, too, that they work for
the people of the United States of America, not for the international
corporations and K Street lobbyists who represent the corporations and
funnel cash into American politics.

"Not One Damn Dime Day" is about supporting the troops. Now over
1,200 brave young Americans and an estimated 100,000 Iraqis have died. The
politicians owe our troops a plan--a way to come home.

There's no rally to attend. No marching to do. No left or right wing
agenda to rant about. On "Not One ! Damn Dime Day" you take action by
doing nothing. You open your mouth by keeping your wallet closed.

For 24 hours, nothing gets spent, not one damn dime, to remind our
religious leaders and our politicians of their moral responsibility to
end the war in Iraq and give America back to the people.

Please share this email with as many people as you'd like.
Honestly, I really don't see how this hurts anyone or makes any statement whatsoever.

Even the civil rights bus boycott took the better part of 18 months. One day means less than nothing. Make it a week instead. Then we'll see the depth of their conviction when their soccer mom SUV gas tanks run dry.

The article claims a 'sizeable majority'. I wonder what the concrete numbers are. There may be 35-40% of the population against the general path and descisions of the war ... but only like 4-5% as hacked as that author is... if even that.

I'll rephrase my statement...Since the election, it has been discovered that 54% of all votes cast were women. Hence, President Bush is back in office thanks to a strong women's turn-out. Now, since President Bush won the popular vote, as well as the electoral college, then my claim that the majority of women who voted are SUV mom's is true...;)
