In recent news ... a father downloaded what he (supposedly) though was pirated entertainment ... what he got was kiddie porn. He chose to call the police and take the hit for pirating to help put an end to child porn. What he got was a visit from Child Protection and a court order preventing him from spending any unsupervised time with his child.

Thoughts?

Sounds like his side of the story.
I'm sure they confiscated his comp, so I'd need more info to even
start in one direction or the other.

Sounds like a bureacrat at work.

From our experience, when you report someone that needs to be busted, they call, make an appointment,
show up late for the appointment & find nothing out of the ordinary & compliment you on your parenting.
Meanwhile, the guy (or gal) that has a momentary lack of reason, goes to jail.

If his side of the story is true, which it must be since he was the one who called the cops in the first place, then it looks like the perfect example of the difference between the law (child porn possession) and justice (it was an accident and he was actually helping).
