Zoo wants French speakers to soothe tiger
EDMONTON (CP) - An Edmonton zoo hopes the sound of French will soothe a Siberian tiger named Boris.
Edmonton's Valley Zoo is asking francophones to come to chat with Boris, who was born at a zoo in Quebec and spent his cubhood hearing French.
Zoo supervisor Dean Riche says Boris is indifferent to commands in English.
He says the zoo has an animal handler who is a francophone, but Boris would benefit from hearing from more people who speak French.
Boris was born in 1999 and is part of the Species Survival Plan.
The plan is a strategy to manage the breeding of endangered animals to maintain healthy populations.
