Who the hell do they think they are & more importantly, why have they been given so much power? This disgusts & sickens me.

Police promptly reported the shooting to the local NAACP, said the Rev. Michael Latham, president of the organization. Ford was black.

Why? Can't they read the paper?

Original Story

Leaders of Fort Wayne's black community commended Fort Wayne police for quickly notifying them after a white police officer shot a 20-year-old black man to death outside a Veterans of Foreign Wars post early Saturday.

In a nutshell-you have a gun & a cop tells you to drop it...drop it. Or you will die, as you should. But don't call some fucking organization to get their okay. Goddamn this pisses me off. :gun3:

"Police could have done a whole a lot of things other than park the car and wait for something to happen," Latham said. "This whole tragedy could have been avoided."
Ok, so we show up in force, that would be racial profiling, expecting a disturbance since they are black. We send one car, and we should have done more. Fuck it. Just fuck it.

I think you have to give the cops credit for trying to defuse the PR nightmare before the fact. They didn't make the world, but they show a remarkable understanding of it.

I agree. Considering the fact that this was a no-win situation, I applaud the fact that the police realized the need to communicate with the NAACP and present their facts without the blazing drama of the media (which is sure to follow :( ). Communication is the key to defusing most volatile situations.

If you want to know what it's like to be a minority in the US, try it. Gun not-with-standing, I've read of stories where the guy gets out of his car with a wallet in his hand and gets shot several times. Gun or not, this guy was going to get shot.

I have NO idea what it is like being a minority in the US, but the guy who gets shot going for his wallet is the 1 out of 1000 incedent, but it is what is reported across the nation.

Cops are 90% good guys, it's the 10% that sucks, and that is what you hear about.

This guy was shot because there was a gun, and some of those people are shot because they are reaching into there coats, etc. after being told to freeze.

Not going for his wallet. Having it in his hand. After the shots are fired the old line "I thought it was a gun" is often heard. More often than not, there was no gun, and never was. What you're reading about in the main story is the 1 in 1,000 incident.

but for the times it is a wallet, they have investigations, and put the 1 in 1000 next to the times NO shoots are fired

Unfortunately, now matter how much we might wish to deny, this is in fact the country we live in. I've read some of those those stories too, Gato. Cops pull over a black young man in a bad part of town, they're sure there'll be trouble and it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Wish I had a workable answer.

training, lots of training, and penalties for doing things like that

They have all that Paul, the problems remain. Of course the main tool they use is denial, which doesn't help.

well, I can't say anything about Canada 1 block from where I now work they shot a young man 16 in the back, while he was running away, and he was handcuffed....

but the cops who where involved where all fired

one solution is disband the police union, so their superb protection is removed.

but I still beleive all this racial profiling, and disturbing behavior is only 10% of the police the other 90% is doing it's job.

and I still beleive the man in the story would have still been shot, black or white, etc., he pointed a gun at the police.

I also beleive calling the NAACP was a strange move, maybe if they had shot him, and it turned out to be a fake gun, i can see the need for the call

Gato, that is far too often true. May I suggest something & I ask you to pass it to all the young brothers you know & ask they they keep passing the word..

When a cop pulls you over, no matter what knid of complete prick he/she is, kiss their ass.
DO NOT get out of your car.
DO NOT reach anywhere without being explicitly told to do so.
DO NOT smart off.

and most importantly,

DO NOT have a single thing in your possession that is illegal.

If these rules are followed, I'll guarantee this type of shit will come to an end.
