Falcon and the Snowman

Sitting down and watching the 1985 film Falcon and the Snowman and I'm a bit blown away about the things I forgot. Timothy Huttons character is a CIA communications tech buried deep in secret vaults around the post Vietnam era. I wasn't blown away with the acting... the story... what got me was the sheer difference from then and now. Everyone was chainsmoking indoors... at home, at work... it didn't matter. The workspace had a blender for their margaritas, the walls were covered with centerfolds, and the male and female employees baited each other with cursing and heavy sexual crudity. It was... bliss. I don't have much recall of that era anymore. It is a distant memory. It seems that you can't do anything anymore either at home or at work.

It took me a few minutes to adjust to the fact that people were actually smoking inside the Waffle House and no one wrote a citation. I've been in California too long.
