families ask why

HERE’S SOME OF the advice they received:

Don’t have too much beer in the fridge; he’s in no shape to get drunk.

Put away the sexy negligee; he probably won’t be in the mood.

Bastards!

Why are they there so long???? *boo hoo, boo hiss*

Because they volunteered for the US military & their boss said go. Ask you grandfathers how long they served in WW2 or Korea.

While I think it sucks they are gone from their families so long, I agree with you here, Gonz. These people did join the military on their own free will and .. well, .. being called to duty is in the job description.

Before this gets out of hand, I'd like to add something from my undisclosed location.

1. I volunteered to join the military, with full knowledge that I may get sent to this situation I'm in now. Nobody forced me. I don't like being here, but I have a job to do, and I'm going to be here until it's over.

2. My fiancee knows and understands this. She doesn't like it much, but she understands, and doesn't complain because she knew what the situation was like when we got engaged. Most folks don't think that through when they marry into this life, and I thank God that she did.

3. Those doint the complaining are doing so from home, in the comfort of their homes, some supplied by the very forces they are complaining about, enjoying the freedoms that we, as military members, are here to protect, and, if our government finds it neccesary, to go out and give others the same chances that the ones at home have. Ours is not to reason why...

flavio and Squiggy may not like what I've just written, but that's the way it is.

Good one, Gato. I'm pretty certain that the complainers are in a vanishingly small minority, but the press will always go for the ratings. Understand, I don't know what we're doing there, I don't really understand why we went in the first place. I also understand the frustration of being told you'll be going home and then finding out you won't. Like you say, a lot of people just don't think it through.

I for one Thank You for what you are doing Gato. You truly are a hero of this country. Even if all you do is steal Girl Scout cookies out of poor GI's mail. :p

Too bad more people don't see it like this or say it like it is. :)

What branch do you serve in?

I'm very thankfull that my little sister didn't get called out during the recent months. She received orders several times only to be delayed and post poned. Of course, if she had to go she had to go and that's part of the deal.

I like what you've written.

1. Good for you. I respect the soldiers over there doing their job. Like I said earlier, it's the guy that sent them there that is the problem.

2. Sounds like she's a good woman and I'm sure you two are thankful for cellphones, email and other communication advancements compared to say the Korean War when troops didn't hear from loved ones so much.

3. Not true, much of the complaining has been coming from the field, there's been numerous articles on the subject. Here's one of the articles.

Also the troops in Iraq are not protecting anyones freedom back here in the US. US freedoms were not in danger from the Iraqis. Again this is not an issue with the troops, but with the guy who sent them.
