TDK ships Blu-ray disks

Man you facturing

By INQUIRER staff: Tuesday 13 December 2005, 08:36

JAPANESE meeja giant TDK said that it's started shipping massive quantities of Blu-ray disk samples, in what seems, on the face of it, a move to bump the market Sony's way.
TDK said its bare type cartridge less BD-R and BD-RE disks have entered the channel, so there must be players around too.

The four types are BD-R (write once), BD-RE (rewritable) and they come in 25GB and 50GB densities, the difference being that two are single layer and two are double layer.

TDK said that the disks will be coated with something called Durabis Two, specially "formulated" for Blu-ray.

TDK did not explain what Durabis is, apart from to say that it resisted scratches. Nor did TDK say what "BD" stands for, either. µ

What are the odds of Sony losing twice (BetaMax)?

Blue movie makes it to Blu-ray

HD-DVD coming later

LFP VIDEO GROUP plans to distribute the first pornographic video on the Blu-ray DVD format.

The title, which will feature Jenna Haze, will be the first mass distribution of an adult movie in the new format The porn industry was widely seen as being the decider for which format won the VHS versus Sony's Betamax wars in the last century.

It looked like Sony was heading for a repeat of history when it banned any operation from using its Blu-Ray format to distribute adult content. Now it seems that it has changed its mind, although no one has confirmed this.

However, it appears that LPF is hedging its bets somewhat. The movie will also be offered in other formats including HD-DVD and DVD-WMV.

Ha. If that doesn't seal the deal, I don't know what will.

I read them. I also remember Beta. If Sony had allowed Beta porn ... DVD's might not even exist.
