TDK ships Blu-ray disks
Man you facturing
By INQUIRER staff: Tuesday 13 December 2005, 08:36
JAPANESE meeja giant TDK said that it's started shipping massive quantities of Blu-ray disk samples, in what seems, on the face of it, a move to bump the market Sony's way.
TDK said its bare type cartridge less BD-R and BD-RE disks have entered the channel, so there must be players around too.
The four types are BD-R (write once), BD-RE (rewritable) and they come in 25GB and 50GB densities, the difference being that two are single layer and two are double layer.
TDK said that the disks will be coated with something called Durabis Two, specially "formulated" for Blu-ray.
TDK did not explain what Durabis is, apart from to say that it resisted scratches. Nor did TDK say what "BD" stands for, either. µ
