food stamps

I think that if they want to start passing regulations about what people can eat with respect to MSG, transfats and whatever other evil of the day they pick ... they should stick to enforcing those rules on people who choose to be ruled. Welfare recipients IMHO, shouldn't get to pick and choose. You choose welfare ... never mind food stamps ... you get food deliveries. Generic, and mind numbingly healthy .... just like those Jenny Craig weekly food deliveries ... but a lot cheaper for the state.

But then, I'm also a fan of welfare families being put into commune style housing, with supplied (and bolted down) furnishing and mandatory attendance to work teams. Keeping up your own building, working the community food gardens .... even stamping out a few license plates if need be. Oh, and privacy ... i don't think so. Weekly health and safety inspections. Failure to comply? Well, your TV signal and lighting get cut .... they're luxuries in my opinion.

It's well understood that I don't believe that all men are equal. There's a large portion of the population that I don't feel has the capacity to look after themselves. If society won't let us let them die off ... at least let's ensure they don't bring the rest of us down to their level.

That said, there's a world of difference between someone who works hard and draws a stipend to make ends meet and this. With the latter off the payroll, I expect there will be better options for the former.

"commune style housing" I don't know would be a good idea.
Maybe on a small divided scale.
Too much organizing, like the unions, might not be good.

You're on to something there prof. I'm from the area where "The Grapes of Wrath" took place. We used have those government camps everywhere. We had even more Okie camps that were not government ran where the citizens worked to help their brothers (my grandfather included).

Its common knowledge around here that Steinbeck's novel got it wrong. The story made the Gov't camps look great and supported the govts propaganda where the camps were the best thing evah. -- Truth is: the camps is one of the reasons this area has been conservative since those days.

Grapes of Wrath was a banned book in our local schools until the 1980's. It was a lie based on communist propaganda.

Those government camps were something to escape from, they worked great in that aspect.

food stamp proles on the march!

They should be armed with automatic weapons and RPGs
then sent to usurp those evil white bourgeoisie capitalists!

I'm torn.

Benjamin Franklin said:
I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer."

However, give the government an inch....

I'm torn.
...

me too, but I think...unfortunately, and I'm sorry to say, but
this was put in place 'progressively', and I believe that's how it'll have to be reversed.
A step at a time, and over time, just like the elections.
"Anti-progressive" in you will.

I think we've gotta start looking at some things that way.
If we don't keep that philosophy at least in a certain frame of mind, it Will be used against us more.
It's either that or full scale revolution, and I don't see that happening.

this crap is beyond old
blame the unemployed
blame the food stampers

fuckin' A

the amount of money being spend by the Federal government
that lacks a Constitutional mandate is mind blowing.

You want to cut a few pennies in the food stamp program and leave
all the other crap in place? The first place to chop is the education department
then defense, and let the younger generation know that they get to pay
that insane FICA rate for SSI they will never collect.

Then you can come back and abolish the food stamp program.

Shit if Obamacare isn't repealed none of this will matter one whit
so sit down shut up and embrace European style socialism with
both hands and a search warrant they will issue to try and locate the
funds you will have to stash to keep them from taking everything you own.

Silly crackers abiding by the laws is for suckas

on my part, I wasn't throwing blame.

This was just an area. and I agree a small one in the scheme of it all,
that there could be some improvement, and I think this one small
step is in the right direction.....
Except...
I Do question why just sugar drinks?
Sounds like they are hedging bets on wall street with it some how.

Obamacare is just a part of it though...
If we don't get most of the crooks out, it's not going to matter.

Oh Look Shiney ===>

If they didn't take half of a middle class paycheck then
there would be fewer people in need of financial assistance
but you see that IS the point of this exercise.

Too get the most people dependent on the government
as possible. Socialism it's just not been done by the right people.

We are the one's we've been waiting for.

It took less than 18 months for even the most dyed in the wool
commie 'gimme a hand out' idiot to see that was a load of crap.

Oh there were hand outs alright, we know where it went,
well not really because if we did know where those hundreds of billions went
we should be screaming for prison sentences!

1.4 trillion dollars? And we are supposed to look the other way
look at the Pepsi the crack hoe's filling her crack baby's bottle with?

Freakin' idiots everywhere you look.

"this exercise" as in the whole food stamp program,
or this particular alteration?

I agree with Cat (and Prof to some degree). I see no problem with limiting the type of foods that are allowed to be purchased under the Food Stamp program. This is not the government determining what you can and can't eat. If you are asking for a handout it should come with strings.

Poor kids are far more likely to be obese and suffer childhood diabetes than any other socio-economic group, especially if they are on Food Stamps. Cut the soda, cut the chips, cut the junk food, cut the candy, cut the freezer pops, etc. None of this is healthy and only perpetuates bad health habits.

food stamps or bank bailouts?

By "this exercise" I meant the current regimes actions.

Every single thing they've done has been with the intention
of wrecking the economy and nationalizing it.

At one point I thought people would wake up and smell
the rotting corpse of freedom but now I'm convinced
there is no hope at all for our country.

Mark my words kiddies.

In 2014-15 the excuses why they can't possibly repeal
Obamacare will mark the death knell of America.

Oh and the comment from the peeps about trying to regulate
what is purchased via food stamps.

You folks are just displaying your ignorance of how the program works.

But that's OK the idea is to get you to focus on things that don't matter
and it's working. Oh look Shiney!

oh, come on Winkster, try to get a little optimistic. At least 'til
we see what happens in the election, and then maybe right after the lame duck.

If it looks like things aren't going to go well, better grab some supplies,
if you don't have um rotated yet.

Chin up ol' boy.
Remember things aren't always as they appear.

Government benefits and the black market.

"things aren't always as they appear" ?!?

Oh no it's all crystal clear!

more and more you will see America
become a two tier society
just like the third world
