DETROIT -- The United Auto Workers says Marine reservists should show a little more semper fi if they want to use the union's parking lot.

The Marine Corps motto means "always faithful," but the union says some reservists working out of a base on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit have been decidedly unfaithful to their fellow Americans by driving import cars and trucks.

So the UAW International will no longer allow members of the 1st Battalion 24th Marines to park at Solidarity House if they are driving foreign cars or displaying pro-President Bush bumper stickers

"While reservists certainly have the right to drive nonunion made vehicles and display bumper stickers touting the most anti-worker, anti-union president since the 1920s, that doesn't mean they have the right to park in a lot owned by the members of the UAW," the union said in a statement released Friday.

Shocked and disappointed, the Marines are pulling out.

"You either support the Marines or you don't," said Lt. Col. Joe Rutledge, commanding officer of the battalion's active duty instructors. "I'm telling my Marines that they're no longer parking there."

ABF is Teamsters. Maybe I'll apply there & scab all the strikes.
 
And in my book the Marines should be allowed to physically assault any and all UAW workers they have a hankering too.
And if they call the cops then the Police should beat the snot out of them too.
 
Im with winky on this. Hell even "american made" vehicles are mostly assembled here, not made here. and for the uaw to do this just give us non union people more reasons to not want to see unions survive.

That's the heart of it, and he's right. Of course all the rest of us have the right to publicize and denegrate the UAW. But, he's correct in that the UAW has the right to decide who parks in a UAW lot. What if it was your driveway?
 
Yup the UAW which most likely has quite a few
veterans in it's membership should use the
Marines as a means to protest against
"the most anti-worker, anti-union president since the 1920s".

You can bet your sweet bippy that if the situation were
reversed and the UAW guys were being ostracized,
the ACLU would be all over it inna New York minute.

I still say kick the snot out of them!
 
Certainly this isn't a property rights issue.

What it certainly is, is a political protest
using members of our armed forces as a means
to further an anti-American socialist agenda.

I find it hard to believe that the rank and file
UAW member would want to come off as
being seen as anti-Marines.

This has to be the Union leadership.

On the otherhand I’ve never really known
any United Auto Werkers personally.
Mebbe on the whole they are all wackjobs?
 
Property rights issue it is. Yes they have the right to do this. What the UAW & other unions fail to see is a plurality, if not outright majority, of their dues paying membership is red staters. The office staff ignore that in favor of socialism.

I'd bet, if a vote were taken on the same parking lot, most members would tell the union officials to back off.
