What's a roadside bomb? How do our guys keep hitting them if (based on the nickname) they're beside the road?

Is it a landmine?
Is it a guy wired up?

Confused

Its kinda like a Claymore mine. It's usually hidden in roadside debris, which makes it hard to see, and triggered either by radio or cell-phone. A vehicle will drive near it, and the person will send the signal to detonate it. They've even got some triggered by infra-red or even the sound of the tires we use.

Aaaaaaaaaaah. Most of our guys are getting killed that way. I couldn't figure out how they kept on driving into the whatever. That makes sense now.

/not watching any videos of it

Here are some videos of IEDs in action. These are NOT small explosions. As you can imagine there is some very explicit language.

Les, this one is Leslie safe, no one gets killed or even injured at all. it was buried too deep and the timming was slow.

But its a dash cam veiw of the attempt going towards it, it misses everyone and the 2nd vehical (camera) just swerves around it.

But you will see how unsuspecting and dangerous they really are.
