Clark Papers Talk Politics And War
General Cites Pressure From Clinton Aides Over Kosovo Conflict
By R. Jeffrey Smith Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, February 7, 2004; Page A01

Some top Clinton administration officials wanted to end the Kosovo war abruptly in the summer of 1999, at almost any cost, because the presidential campaign of then-Vice President Al Gore was about to begin, former NATO commander Gen. Wesley K. Clark says in his official papers.

"There were those in the White House who said, 'Hey, look, you gotta finish the bombing before the Fourth of July weekend. That's the start of the next presidential campaign season, so stop it. It doesn't matter what you do, just turn it off. You don't have to win this thing, let it lie,' " Clark said in a January 2000 interview with NATO's official historian, four months before leaving the post of supreme allied commander Europe.

Shocking, just shocking.

Re the commision studying "intelligence failures" in Iraq said:
"As we move forward in our efforts to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction, we must stay ahead of constantly changing intelligence challenges," Bush said. "The stakes for our country could not be higher, and our standard of intelligence gathering and analysis must be equal to that of the challenge." The president ordered the commission to report its findings by the end of March 2005, more than four months after this year's presidential election.

No doubt some left wing propaganda organ

He ordered the commission. You want someone to go through (how many) years worth of intel in 5 or 6 months?

like the WashingtomPost is some ulra right wing love fest paper

Yeah, okay  You know, maybe my problem is you just don't seem like you'd be this gullible. It is my problem though.

BTW, Boston Globe, not Washington Post. Try to keep up. :p

Please, fill me in.

I listened live to the announcement of the commission. It wasn't John Kerry or Howard Dean appointing it. It's balanced between right & hate Bush. They're looking at many years worth of intel. The 9/11 commission wants more time & they've had over 2 years yet you demand this in less than half the time. C'mon, be reasonable.

It's kind of ironic-9/11 happened & the left went crazy with the entire connect the dots thing. What did he know & when did he know it. All that jazz.

With Iraq, the dots were connected & the left is screaming to disconect the dots.

Why don't (some of) you people simply copy & paste "I HATE BUSH" and save yourself some typing. The exact same message comes across & I don't have to continue to read regurgitated drivel.

Oh, sorry.

I'm at work (yes, on a f*cking Saturday) so I don't have time to come up with more drivel. If you can't see that these two stories are obviously reportin exactly the same thing, nothing I can say will convince you.
