Go South, young man...

The Navy is moving it's sub operation to Virginia, and the powers that be in New England are upset. Just as a reminder, these are the same folks who always talk down to military members as a group. Guess the South is better than most folks thought, eh SnP?

Most folks don't know it, and many more will call me names for saying it, but that's never stopped me before now has it?

Among the primary reasons, if not THE primary reason, for the launching of the War of Northern Aggression in the first place was the protection of New England profits. I do not have my source at hand, but I paraphrase from the book The South Was Right! by the brothers Kennedy. No, not those Kennedys. In that book, they illustrate with corroborated documentation how the New England millionaires lobbied for an invasion of the Confederacy to protect their profits. One even made the statement that, and I paraphrase here: Should the Confederacy be allowed to remain independent from the United States, New York City will become a ghost town. This statement was made in reference to the tarriff passed to cripple Confederate ports of shipping, so New York and Boston's harbors could maintain their dominance in overseas shipping. Since England and many other European nations had already pledged trade with the Confederate States of America, and could thence bypass the greedy tarriffs imposed in New England ports (thus maximizing profits for themselves) by instead shipping to Virginia, or Georgia, or South Carolina, or even New Orleans, the threat to the yankee businessmen was very real.

But what am I saying...it was all slavery, right? :disgust2:

Y'all could just read that book and save me a ton of typing you know.

So now, a major industry is abandoning those hallowed and sacred yankee strongholds and moving South, eh? tsk tsk. Hate that. Guess some folks will be missing those cushy jobs and might have to actually work for a living now. Hate it hate it hate IT! A Navy shipyard will by necessity support all manner of lacal businesses, from delis to hardware stores to you name it. I suppose Yawkey's Kosher Deli will be replaced with Bubba Joe's Sub Shack. The horror. :headbng2:

King's Bay near Savannah is getting a boost out of this re-org, too. You can sit at the north tip of Amelia Island, or the south tip of Cumberland, and every once in awhile, you'll see a nuc boat move out. It's kinda cool.

Can we ever again have a discussion that involves the south without some dissertation
about the War of Northern Aggression?

Hey, you should try living down here. ;)

The only south I want to live in ends with West.
