Guns save lives

What a surprise.

WASHINGTON – While it is an article of faith among gun-control proponents that government restrictions on firearms reduces violence and crime, two new U.S. studies could find no evidence to support such a conclusion.

The National Academy of Sciences issued a 328-page report based on 253 journal articles, 99 books, 43 government publications, a survey of 80 different gun-control laws and some of its own independent study. In short, the panel could find no link between restrictions on gun ownership and lower rates of crime, firearms violence or even accidents with guns.

The panel was established during the Clinton administration and all but one of its members were known to favor gun control.

To: U.S. Congress, Senate, and the President of the United States of America
We the undersigned, believe the current Assault Weapon and High Capacity Magazine Ban found in the text of HR3355 “VIOLENT CRIME CONTROL AND LAW ENFORCEMENT ACT OF 1993” (As passed by the House on August 21, 1994 and subsequently approved by the Senate on August 25, 1994); TITLE XI-FIREARMS, SUBTITLE A-ASSAULT WEAPONS, should sunset as provided by SEC. 110105. EFFECTIVE DATE, paragraphs (1) and (2).

This ban has not reduced crime by preventing criminals from obtaining these firearms. Criminals by their very nature will not obey this or any other law when it comes to their illegal enterprises. However, this legislation has put hurdles before the law abiding citizens to legally purchase these firearms. As they relate to the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, these firearms are not sporting arms. The 2nd Amendment is not about hunting or sport, but individual protection. It should be noted that many of these arms are used for sporting purposes, such as competitive shooting, and within the laws, hunting.

The ban on these firearms is based on cosmetic features that do not enhance their ability to function any better than firearms that do not have them. A ban on high capacity magazines also does not reduce crime or deaths. All this does is making it harder for the law abiding to exercise their right to protect themselves. As pointed out before, the criminal element will use what ever they can get, regardless of the consequences of disobeying the law.

Honorable members of the House and Senate, we urge you, please do not put forward a renewal of this ban.

Mr. President, we urge you, please do not sign a renewal of this ban if it comes to you.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

It's not, unless you're a liberal.

I am...or could be considered one but still...this isn't news. Guns, like ciggrettes, are a matter of personal responsibility and discretion...lack of or an abundance of can not decide death rates...

...the society's mental health will.

What is so news worthy about that.

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people" is a concept completely foreign to many many folks. I just like to remind 'em of such.

:alienhuh: Tell me about it....If not a gun then anyone with 2 functioning brain cells can easily spot atleast 5 normal, everyday, items around them which can be used to cause serious physical harm....which can be worse than death. It is all about the will and lack of fear to do such.

Gun is only an another medium by which to cause harm.
