A file just appeared on my desktop

It is called "Scrap" and the type is "Scrap Object" and it won't let me delete it cause it says it's "static". WHAT IS THIS?

DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK THIS!

Right click it, and give me the full file name - with any extensions.

This may be a selected portion of a document that you inadvertantly dragged onto your desktop, or it may be a nice trojan embedded in a .shs file.

You still there?

full file name is "scrap" there is no extension that I can see

oh, i tried to delete it again and it went away

this is what it said opens it though...

"Shell scrap object handler"

i have come across 'scrap' files when using autocad but they went away very easily.

Scrap is when you try to paste stuff that are incompatible... For example, sometimes when you copy a picture (the graphics) and paste it in Windows Explorer it will create a JPG file. When you paste Office document stuff, it will create a Scrap document. You can open it and merge it into a Word document.

Yes, but it's also easy to imbed an executable inside a scrap file. This is not an unusual way to spread a trojan.

Nix, be safe and run a virus scan on the system, OK?
