180 Congo Refugees Massacred in Burundi
By ALOYS NIYOYITA

GATUMBA, Burundi - Attackers armed with machetes and automatic weapons raided a U.N. refugee camp in western Burundi, shooting and hacking to death at least 180 men, women and children, U.N. officials said.

Burundian Hutu rebels claimed responsibility, insisting the camp for Congolese Tutsi refugees fleeing tribal fighting was a hide-out for Burundi army soldiers and Congolese tribal militiamen.

But most of the victims appeared to be women and children. Their charred remains lay among the cooking utensils and the smoldering remnants of their former homes on Saturday.

I'm confused Gonz, are you saying that the UN should actually be everywhere preventing everything bad from happening? I think you should maybe find a religious board to shout about God on...

Let's be honest, if there was a decent amount of oil involved the US would have already been there. Then you could call all Hutus terrorists, kill them and steal their oil too.

Well you'd figure they'd be at their own camp?
a U.N. refugee camp in western Burundi,

Sorry I figured that we were talking about a refugee camp staffed by aid workers. I didn't realise that it was a military camp and the UN soldiers at around watching people get killed.

My mistake.

If you staff it & name it you damned well better protect it.

He's got you there, GNL. The UN was responsible to those people they put into that camp. They already knew of the problems between the two groups. As for your 'oil' phrase, I'm not sure, but isn't BP the largest oil company in the world? Followed by Shell (Royal Dutch) and then Exxon (US)? Before the first gulf war, wasn't the vast majority of oil from Iraq going to Europe through holdings owned by BP and Shell? Most of the oil coming to the US is from Venezuela because of shipping costs. ;) Besides...it would've been easier taking over Mexico (sorry Luis G) and their large reserves than travelling 2500 miles to fight in the desert. The Mexicans even have great beer... ;)

Most refugee camps form spontaneiously, just because the UN have sent their aid workers into a camp does not mean that they have sent troops in. I think that to blame the UN for the actions of a group of Hutu rebels is a little unfair.

However lets assume that as Gonz says the UN are to blame. Applying this logic to 911 the US forces were to blame and not the terrorists themselves. Were Afghanistan and Iraq simply an exercise in distraction to keep people from noticing this?

As to the oil companies yes, BP is possibly the largest oil company in the world. If it is then I would guess it's because of the North Sea reserves. It is one of the "seven sisters" that were formed from S.O. an American company.

Can't play that hand GNL. The liberals already use it.
