Just piicked up an American DJ Vertigo effect light. I'm going to mount it on the ceiling above my computer. Has a built in mic for beat detection. If i like it enough i'll probably buy more of this type of hardware. Looks really good.

My kids are all set up by their dad, they have a disco ball in their bedroom, another strobey type light, a bubble machine, and a fogger for special occasions

No need to recite them Gonzo. I still have every Metallica lyric memorized from Kill'em all to Justice. Gave up on them after the black album though. This thing will primarily be abused by electronic/trance but with a mixter of everything else from classic to bluegrass to jazz to deathmetal. The best of all genres.

(liked Phantom lord the best off that album though)

AAAARRRGGGHH!!

I hadn't thought about the fact that this thing uses two 300 Watt Halogen Bulbs. I set it on my subwooofer and turned it on and it just about burned my face off. Definetely needs to go on the ceiling.

Now that i know what to expect...on to the fun.
