ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - She was an ambitious lawyer and TV commentator who starting going to Atlantic City casinos to relax and soon was getting high-roller treatment that included limousines whisking her to the resort.

Arelia Margarita Taveras said she was even allowed to bring her dog, Sasha, to the blackjack tables, sitting in her purse.

But her gambling spun out of control: She said she would go days at a time at the tables, not eating or sleeping, brushing her teeth with disposable wipes so she didn't have to leave.

She said her losses totaled nearly $1 million.

So why didn't she quit?

this is only about her realizing she has a chance of recovering her losses.

she knows, at some point, that her suit is ridiculous but that a well-funded defendant will often pay to make it go away. think about the scrutiny that casinos don't want. even though they really had no duty to pick her ass up off the floor, gee, wouldna they done so if they were nice guys (ha ha).

if she gets a settlement of 5% of what she's suing for... she's all set. then she can buy that fractional taco bell franchise and live happily ever after.
