I was at a party last night, and was chatting to some American guys I knew, and an Aussie guy.
One of the American guys mentioned an incident that happened in Ireland during the week, namely that two lads broke into Shannon Airport grounds where a US military plane was "parked" (or whatever the term is). The lads painted a slogan on the plane, someting anti-war-on-Iraq I found out afterwards.
I said "yeah, God, that was hilarious!", and laughed. So did the Aussie guy.
This did not go down well.
Believe me, I wouldn't have laughed had I realised the reaction it would get... I only did so cos of the funniness of two guys painting a plane, not cos it was American, or cos of what they wrote, or anything... it was simply a case of my finding it funny that two eejits were able to get in and do stuff like that in the first place! They were TAKING THE PISS, for God's sake!
I am beginning to think that an Irish sense of humour can be a dangerous commodity when living abroad...
